Training Courses

Courses are either delivered at a Mainport Training Centre or at a client’s site. Mainport instructors are fully mobile and able to work in all parts of the UK and also overseas. Plant operator, forklift truck and construction safety courses can be aimed at novice or experienced personnel. The wide range of training courses will suit operatives, supervisor or managers.

Construction Safety

The UK construction industry has a high accident and injury rate when compared to other industries. As a result the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) focus much of their energy into policing safety in this sector. Legislative requirements are many and varied with complex requirements placed upon principal contractors. All contractors have a basic requirement to ensure that their workforce have received adequate training in their various work activities. Mainport Training offer a comprehensive range of courses to suit the requirements of many contractors in the sector.

Driver CPC

New European legislation has introduced requirements that drivers of passenger carrying and goods vehicles undertake 35 hours of approved training in every 5 year period. The requirements came into force for passenger carrying drivers in September 2008, and takes effect for lorry drivers from September 2009. Mainport Training offer courses of either ½ or 1 day duration to help transport operators meet their new responsibilities.

Driver Training

Individuals wishing to drive any vehicle above a basic car category are required to pass the relevant Driving Standards Agency (DSA) practical driving test to obtain the entitlement on their driving licence. Mainport Training offer courses on the full range of passenger carrying and goods vehicles to prepare you for your test.

Forklift Truck

Forklift trucks are involved in a huge number of workplace accidents every year. Operator error is frequently a major contributory factor. Health and Safety legislation is supplemented by a Code of Practice and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance on the training of operators and management of lift truck operation in the workplace. Mainport Training offer training for operators, instructors, supervisors and managers under various accreditations.

Instructor / Assessor

The ability to deliver high quality training comes from undertaking training in instructional techniques as well as sound subject knowledge. Instructor courses concentrate on the instructor’s ability to control and manage the learning experience, together with training in presentational skills. Mainport offer a variety of instructor courses designed to meet the type of training being delivered.

The skills of an assessor are focused on the ability to evaluate an individual’s competence in a working environment. Assessing is a demanding role requiring high levels of perception, communication and record keeping throughout the evidence gathering process. Mainport offer Assessor and Internal Verifier courses to enable individuals to get the qualifications they need.

Lifting Operations

Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), BS 7121 ‘Safe use of cranes’, and Guidance note GS39 require that, fundamentally, all lifting operations are planned, supervised and carried out safely. Lifting operations can take a multitude of different forms depending upon the industry, type of crane, accessories used and the loads being lifted. Mainport Training can provide a comprehensive range of courses for all levels of personnel involved from the Appointed Person, Lifting Supervisor, Slinger, Signaller, Load Handler and crane operator.

Mobile Plant

Legislation requires that individuals required to operate mobile plant have received adequate training on the machinery in question. Mainport Training offer courses for novice or experienced operators as well as conversion courses to transfer skills from once sub-category to another. Mainport Training’s mobile plant courses are accredited by a variety of certification bodies, as required by various industry sectors. NEBOSH / Health and Safety Training

The NEBOSH General Certificate is the entry level qualification for those with health and safety responsibilities or wishing to embark upon a career in health and safety management. Courses are run on a block study / home study basis leading to the examination day.

Mainport Training also offers a wide range of health and safety courses either in centre or in the workplace on topics such as fire safety, work equipment safety, risk assessment, manual handling and first aid.

Offshore

The last 20 years has seen a marked improvement in safety at offshore installations. The offshore working environment is very hostile and the potential risks are extremely high. Mainport Training offer courses worldwide for offshore workers required to undertake a range of lifting and rigging operations.

Plant Operations NVQ Level 2

This qualification is proof of competence measured against nationally recognised standards. The qualification is made up of various mandatory and optional units designed to map an individual’s competence in the safe use of their machinery in a working environment.

Individuals needing to upgrade their red CPCS cards must achieve this qualification to do so.

Mainport Training are able to obtain funding for eligible individuals which could mean this qualification can be achieved COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE!

Street Works

Mainport Training’s courses are designed to enable companies to meet their requirements under the New Roads and Streetworks Act (NRSWA). Courses are delivered at purpose built training centres and comprise of units relating to the activities of operatives and supervisors involved in the excavation and reinstatement of the highway. Our courses have been adapted to accommodate the changes in the specification for the reinstatement of opening in the highway.
