Driver Training Courses

Mainport has long experience in transport training and the preparing of individuals for the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) Driving Test on LGV, PCV, Minibus and trailer towing vehicles. Mainport will also organise you medical examination and theory test (if you require one).

LGV Category CE
This is the largest category of goods vehicle, usually being either an articulated lorry or a drawbar combination. This is the licence category needed if you want to drive a Category C goods vehicle towing any trailer over 750kg.

LGV Category C
This category covers all rigid body goods vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight over 7.5 tonnes. Trailer weight is restricted to 750kg in this licence category.

LGV Category C1
This vehicle category covers all goods vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight between 3.5 tonnes and 7.5 tonnes. Individuals who passed their car driving tests before January 1997 were automatically granted this category. Trailer size is restricted to 750kg

LGV Category C1+E
You will need to obtain this category if you want to drive a C1 category vehicle with a trailer exceeding 750kg

B+E Car or van with trailer

PCV D
This category covers all buses and coaches with more than 16 passenger seats

Driving Goods vehicles NVQ Level 2
This is a competence based qualification for commercial vehicle drivers set against National Occupational Standards. FUNDING AVAILABLE!

Shunting / Tug vehicles
Courses are offered for tug drivers requiring basic or refresher training and assessment in the workplace. We also train instructors for these vehicles.
